"Even though I’m thoroughly immersed in wireless technology on a daily basis, I must admit that I know very little about how it actually works. Before reading this book, I hadn’t even really thought of things like TV remotes as wireless technology. In hindsight, it’s obvious considering that they don’t use wires, but it’s something that I’ve never given much thought to. I had also never thought about how computer networks control such seemingly-simple things as everyday communication. This book has made me look at the world in a new way, noticing how much of our society is dependent on wireless technology beyond the prominent examples of cell phones, tablets, and WiFi.
I learned a lot from this book, and I learned still have a lot to learn and digest. The book is incredibly thorough, covering everything from how satellites work to staying safe while using wireless networks. The information on wireless network security, wireless communication, and how to secure your network are particularly useful for those who are unfamiliar with this technology. I personally found the future of wireless technology, the future of wireless networks, the key milestones in computer networking history, and the different applications for wireless technologies fascinating as well.
However, this thoroughness is also the book’s downfall. I think that there’s a lot of information, particularly in the beginning, which is superfluous if you are just trying to learn enough to function in the modern world. I’m not certain if the step-by-step explanation of how satellites work is necessary for anyone who is not trying to pursue computer science and technology seriously (whether as a hobby or as a career option). There is also a lot of technical jargon used that is not properly explained for the average reader. Because I only use wireless technology and have not learned much about how it works before this book, I had to re-read sections multiple times to make sure that I understood what was being said. It’s not impossible to understand if you have little knowledge of this stuff, but you need to read it slowly and carefully if that is the case. A list of resources for further research on this topic would have also been helpful, but that’s a personal preference on my part in regards to these sorts of guides.
For those who are very new to wireless technology, I think that the most important sections are the book’s introduction, the introduction to wireless technology, any section explaining WHAT something is, and the sections on security in regards to wireless networks, data, and wireless technology. The introduction to computer networking is especially important, considering that’s what this book is titled after and it’s with that technology that people often run into problems. Otherwise, you might want to start with a more basic book to build a solid foundation before diving into this one. If you already have a basic understanding and want to know more about the nitty-gritty of how wireless technology works and how to interact with it, this book is definitely for you."

It’s just an explanation of what’s what. Like a router and what it does, a cable and what it does. I’m not sure who this book is for. Not me.
- I thought I knew it all about computer networking. I guess I was all wrong. This book made me realize just how much information there is to know about computers and the networking that we do. First, I learned more about what wireless technology really is. Many people think that it can only be technology without cords, but that is simply not the case. There are various types of wireless technology that we can use everyday. These are routers, adapters, repeaters, phones, microphones, computer peripherals, and other household items. They can have a cord or be cordless which was fun for me to learn! According to this book, WiFi is currently the most popular type of wireless technology being used in the world today. There are many advantages to this type of technology, according to the book. These advantages are quick communication with people are the world, fast data transfers, easy to use and install, cost effective, and very durable. If you are looking to learn even more about this type of technology, this book is filled with details on how to use it and where to find it.
- I got this book on the advice of a friend and am I quite happy I listened. The pointers given were so applicable. While reading it, I actually picked up my cellphone and logged out all the apps I wasn't using. It's refreshing to get such clear guidance on the items that have become so commonplace in our everyday world. Highly recommended for the elderly who are just coming into the understanding of the wireless technology.
- This book reads like a doctoral dissertation on wireless technology as written by a middle school student. Like it was first written in Chinese and then translated into English using Google translate and not proofread. I kept expecting to turn a page and read - HAHA GOTCHA NOW HERE IS THE REAL BOOK! The publisher must have paid people to write the good reviews. I would give it zero starts if I could. The capper is the author's close to racist name MICHAEL B. WHITE! I not only want my money back but I want to be paid for the time I wasted reading it...
- A beginners guide book which is written about computer networking, to master computer networking. This amazing guide book will teach you about different network application and everything about ip addresses and ports and much more related to this term, appreciated.
- General info ... Nothing at all technical... Couldn't dind any useful info for myself.. Sorry...
Great if you are oblivious to Networks... - It reminds so much of a textbook - lots of bullet points, advantages & disadvantages of different networks, etc, but avoids explaining anything in depth. The fact that there are zero illustrations in the book tells much about it. Super boring to read and at the end you will learn nothing more but the very basics of networking that are obvious to anyone who is even remotely familiar with technologies in general.
Waste of time and money.
Would only recommend it for folks who have never heard what WiFi, router or network packet is.
